Codebook
Qualitative coding and analysis for text, audio, and video
Qualitative research, in context
Codebook is a qualitative coding and analysis tool in development at Panorama Lab. It is designed to help researchers work with interviews, documents, field notes, and recordings in one research project.
The planned workflow brings together source annotation, code organization, analytic memos, and theme development. Researchers will be able to move between coded excerpts and their original context as they develop and refine interpretations.
Capabilities
Text Coding
Codebook is being designed to let researchers label passages in transcripts, documents, and field notes with one or more codes.
Audio and Video Annotation
Planned support for time-aligned annotations will connect codes and observations to specific moments in recordings.
Code Organization
The planned code system will bring together code definitions, categories, and relationships as an analysis evolves.
Analytic Memos
Memos are planned to capture interpretations, questions, and coding decisions alongside the research material.
Coded Excerpts
Planned retrieval tools will bring together excerpts associated with a code while keeping each excerpt connected to its source.
Theme Development
Codebook aims to help researchers compare coded material and develop themes across sources.
